JOEY PHYLAND

After beginning a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at the University of Melbourne, Joey decided to seriously pursue a career in the Performing Arts, moving to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Musical Theatre) at the Victorian College of Arts (VCA).
Prior to commencement at VCA, Joey originated the comedic lead Aubrey, in a Workshop of New Professional Music Theatre work ‘Joan of Arc (2019)’ (dir. Tim Schwerdt) and underwent singing lessons with Gary May and Rosie Monteiro Harris. At the VCA Joey performed as part of the ensemble in ‘Sweet Charity’ (dir. Jayde Kirchert) and this year performed in ‘Mongrel’ (dir. Maude Davey and Sarah Ward), ‘Morning Melodies 2022’ (dir. Jayde Kirchert) as a featured vocalist at Hamer Hall, ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ (dir. Jason Langley) and was absolutely thrilled to play the lead Bobby in ‘Urinetown’ (dir. Trudy Dunn).
Since graduation, Joey was lucky enough to be a part of Greg McClean's ‘Scrublands’, and then as 'Harry the Horse' in Antipodes Theatre Company's ‘Guys and Dolls’ (dir. Trudy Dunn and Brandon Pape) playing at Chapel Off Chapel.
